Nigerian Program

People For Progress Foundation Raising Stars of Destiny International School

The Challenge

Faced with little hope of escaping the ever increasing costs of quality education and continuous teacher strikes along with unexpected government closures of government run schools, too many children are falling through the cracks and not able to realize that they are the future of Nigeria. It is imperative that they come to understand their full potential before they come to adults. Presently, many uneducated children, or educated young adults with degrees but no knowledge of their gifts and talents, turn to gang activity, or crime as sources of survival or become subject to sexual exploitation.

The Response

At the People for Progress- Raising Stars of Destiny International School, once operational, will provide quality education for its students with reduced school fees and/or scholarships for children of parents who can’t afford the high fees of other non-government education centers. The aim of RSDI is the identify and encourage the gifts and talents each student has in order that they may develop the necessary skills for future careers which will sustain them. A lunch program will be implemented to provide a nutritious meal for all children attending as well as a health and hygiene program ensuring sanitation and providing education toward health maintenance. This will be in addition to providing quality core education including:

  • language
  • social studies
  • mathematics
  • science
  • music
  • movement

The land for this project has been purchased in Zhidu village, Amac, Abuja. We are in the beginning phases of planning the building which will carry a minimum
of 12 classrooms, a kitchen area, admin office, boys’ and girls’ washrooms, and a lunchroom/ community room. The school will also host a spacious field and
playground area, enclosed in a protected walled and treed compound with security onsite.
We plan to develop a teachers’ resource center, library, safe food storage area, a school supplies room and an office that provides space and privacy for parent
and community meetings.
As well as furnishing an education for the children and employment for the staff, Raising Stars of Destiny International School will contribute to the economic and community well-being of Zhidu Village:

  • by being a sustainable presence
  • by purchasing food and supplies from local entrepreneurs
  • by interacting with the other children and residents of the community
  • By encouraging the students to become involved in projects that would assist the less fortunate

We are encouraging sponsors and contributors to contribute to Raising Stars of Destiny International School to help us build and then be able to provide quality education to children who would not otherwise be encouraged to become the leaders of tomorrow in health, business, education, finance, arts and entertainment, politics, and religion in Nigeria and throughout the world.

Conceptual designs will be forthcoming after consulting with engineers and professionals of other necessary building requirements.
