Tanzanian Program

Student Sponsorship

The Challenge

Although government funded primary public education exists, there are fees that must be covered by the children’s families. The fees cover things such as

  • uniform
  • basic supplies (such as paper and pencils)
  • school bag
  • meals
  • books
  • often the student’s desk

Inability to pay fees, not having school supplies, or even not having the correct shoes may result in the child’s being refused the opportunity to continue attending classes or sit for exams.

That means withheld results slips, diplomas and certification necessary to pursue employment or further the child’s education.

The Response

People For Progress Foundation, provides sponsorship for young children at schools in Machame, Tanzania located on the southeast slope of Mount Kilimanjaro. We also sponsor school-aged children in Kenya who otherwise would not be able to afford school fees.

Priscilla is one of the sponsored students in Tanzania. She, her single mom, and her siblings who live together in a small house face a struggle to survive. Priscilla’s grades and her confidence have improved since being sponsored by People For Progress Foundation.

Contributors to the student sponsorship initiative of People For Progress Foundation empower children like Priscilla to reach towards a brighter future, improving the lives of their families and giving them greater opportunities to escape the cycle of poverty.
